The first down is very important in NFL matches. Since the progress in a NFL match is measured in yards the offensive team has to get as much yardage as possible moving closer to the defensive team’s end zone. Every time the ball is in the hands of the offensive team they get four chances or downs to score 10 yards and every time it does so successfully they earn their first down along with a second set of 4 downs. But if they fail to gain the required yardage they lose the possession of the ball to the defensive team. Thus it is the duty of the defensive team to prevent the offensive team from gaining the 10 yards for the first down. When the offense team reaches 4th down successfully, they will punt or kick the ball away forcing the opponent to drive further down.

NFL has specific rules laid down for moving the ball during its matches. NFL matches begin with snap. The place where the game begins on the field is called the line of scrimmage. The quarterback who starts the game shouts loudly to his team players and throws the ball to the player in the front.

Of the 6 teams playing under the auspices of NBA – 3 are the Southwest, the Southeast and the Northwest divisions. The teams that play under the Southwest division Dallas Maverick, Houston Rockets, Memphis Grizzlies, New Orleans Hornets, San Antonio Spurs. Southeast division comprises of Atlanta Hawks, Charlotte Bobcats, Miami Heat, Orlando Magic, Washington Wizards. The Northwest division teams are Denver Nuggets, Minnesota Timberwolves, Oklahoma City Thunder, Portland Trail Blazers, Utah Jazz. After the summer break the teams start training generally from the last week of September. These training camps are ideal for coaches to evaluate the physical and mental status of the senior players and especially rookies and prepare them for the upcoming NBA season. During this training session the coach scouts for the strength and weakness of each individual player and the team as a whole. The regular season of NBA is quite rigorous and hence this training is imperative. During this time the coach also builds up the roster of 12 active players and 3 inactive players and the regular NBA season is started based on this roster. Teams can assign those players who have less than 2 years of playing experience to the NBA development league so that they can improve their performance. .
